After the drop in October and November, the median value at which banks valued homes rose again in December

The median value of the bank assessment on housing in Portugal returned to rising after two months of decline. In December, this value stood at 1536 euros per square meter (m2), six euros more (or 0.4%) than in November, according to data released this Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).< /p>

By region, “the West and Tagus Valley showed the most significant increase compared to the previous month (2.1%), with a single decrease being recorded in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (-0.2%)”.< /p>


Compared to December 2022, the increase in the median value of assessments was 5.3%. The biggest increase occurred in Madeira (15.5%) and the smallest in the Algarve (0.9%).

By type, apartments registered a median value of 1703 euros per m2, with the highest value being recorded in Greater Lisbon (2277 euros per m2). Houses registered a median value of 1210 euros per m2, and it was also in Greater Lisbon where the value was highest (2196 euros).

Analyzing the entire year 2023, the median value of the bank assessment stood at 1521 euros per m2, 8.6% more than in 2022. The number of bank assessments, according to INE, increased in December to 29,500, 0.8% more than in November.
