On the 1st of may commemorating Labour Day, we welcomed to our head office in Aveiro the canoeing duo, Luís Vieira and António Palavra, to present their project to various entities, athlets, coaches, family, and friends. Long-time friends, Vieira and Palavra have distinct paths in the sport, but now unite to form the first Portuguese Team to participate in the longest and most demanding canoeing competition in the world, the "YUKON1000." They are two experienced athletes with extensive resumes in various canoeing disciplines, preparing to face the biggest challenge of their lives. With experience in Sprint Canoeing, Marathon, Whitewater, Sea, and Kayak Surfing, they are ready to tackle the Yukon River, stretching from Canada to Alaska.
"When our Marketing Department presented us with the opportunity to embark on this adventure, we believed from the first second that it made complete sense, and we made sure to provide all the necessary support to make this participation possible immediately. (Dr. Ricardo Diogo Couceiro)." Thus, the "NAMOR YUKON1000 - PORTUGAL TEAM" is born, with the NAMOR Group as the main sponsor.
Participants will have a maximum of 10 days to cover a distance of one thousand miles (approximately 1.600 kilometers) in a self-sufficient regime, paddling for 18 hours a day and resting only 6. This extreme challenge will lead the canoeists from Aveiro to face not only physical exhaustion but also the dangers of a harsh region inhabited by wild animals, where survival skills will be put to the test.
For Luís Vieira and António Palavra, the "Yukon1000" represents not only a test of physical and mental limits but also an opportunity for personal growth and achievement. Their participation in this historic event is a milestone not only for themselves but also for Portuguese canoeing.
