DECO Proteste advocates for permanent changes to mortgage early repayment fees, proposing a definitive exemption for variable-rate contracts and a reduction of the fee for fixed-rate contracts from 2% to 0.5%. The current scheme has had a positive impact, enabling savings of €56 million in 2023 and facilitating debt repayment, competition, and credit transfers. Moreover, it has not negatively affected the profits of major banks, which are expected to grow by around 5% by the end of 2024.
